Simon & Clubber

Caution, contains Spoilers for "Rocky 3"

Here's 2 Stallone Movie Villains as cute cartoons. I just maligned the mash-up to Josh, but I did it anyway. Oh, me. Simon Phoenix was a real jerk in "Demolition Man" and played by Wesley Snipes. And Clubber Lang fought Rocky Balboa in "Rocky 3". Rocky lost, but went on to win and reclaim the title.

New Art from an old friend.

Hung out with my old friend Matt Furie. Actually, I helped him load up his truck to move away. He gave me some art for my trouble. I like him. I would have done it just to hang out with him, but I love the gift. Having artists for friends is so cool. I'm a little sad to see him go, but glad I got the chance to say goodbye.

Slimer finds out his buddy is a dead kid.

Josh Ellingson has drawn 100 and some odd Slimers on a dry-erase board, and shows zero evidence that he will slow down. I asked if I could do one and he said I should. But what could I do he hadn't done? I had to add a second character.

'm putting some finishing touches on a shameless attempt to capitalize on the popularity of the Giants' World Series MVP. Also, it will be collectible as a rare sports-based piece from me, Jason Dryg. I'm not known for my interest in the area of professional sports.

This is my most recent work. It is our newest family member, Frisky. She joined us in May. It feels like she's been here all along. I painted her for my wife for our anniversary. It might, technically, be my best portrait ever.

I'll be at SF Zinefest this weekend!

I have a last minute opportunity to table at SF Zinefest in the fair building in beautiful Golden Gate Park. I will be selling prints and more, Saturday and Sunday from 11 to 6. I will be liquidating stock, so come make me an offer. My goal is to not bring anything home. It's free to get in so you can spend all your cash inside. Then you can stroll on over to the Academy of Sciences and enjoy the aquarium. See you there!

Cheers, Jason

This was the painting I did for the "Villians" show a while back. Obviously, it didn't sell. I like it.

Here's little sketch I did using using ink made by Rich Spelker. He was down the hall from The Local 303 at 1890 Bryant. He is hardcore. He makes ink like they did in the olden days. Not fifty years ago, like hundreds of years ago. You can check out his process here. And I realize that my drawing't truly showcase his beautiful ink, but that's on me.

Up at The Way Out

Just hung a bunch of my art at The Way Out Cafe, just in time for "Waffles at the Way Out". The Way Out Cafe is a coffee shop owned and operated by my friends Debby and Greg. Every Sunday from 10-2 a guest Dee-Jay will spin all manner of musical madness to which you can consume delicious waffles made by local musical legends Russell Quan and Greg Lowery. I even played records there once and intend to again. But for now, my art is there. I think that's pretty cool. Thanks Way Out Cafe.

The Bat Tiki painted.

  by Jason Dryg
, a photo by Jason Dryg on Flickr.
First carving since the great finger slice of 2012. My neighbor Dean is obsessed with Batman and his passion has totally refreshed my fondness for the caped crusader. I would have loved to do this sans paint. But, the carving was choppy and I couldn't sand out some of the over-cuts, so I painted. I fear it will be hard to part with this one.

Tiki 3

Tiki 3 by Jason Dryg
Tiki 3, a photo by Jason Dryg on Flickr.
This one I tried to do super clean. I think it came out like 3 tikis in 1. While starting #4, I cut my finger pretty good and will have to stop for a few days. For those of you who have shown interest in buying them, I am sorry to say I've decided to hold on to them until Tiki Oasis in August. I will put them up for sale after that, if they don't sell there.

This is a little rougher, but with more detail. It is actually a salvaged and completed carve from several years ago. I think it came out okay.

My buddy Josh and I are heading to Tiki Oasis this August. I felt inspired to begin carving again. I decided to make garish color choices and perhaps peddle them while we are there. I assume they will get both better and easier to carve as I proceed. Knock on wood.

"Villain" a show I will be participating in.

Some artists I really love and admire are in the show as well, you should check it out. Plus, shows at the awesome Mission Comics always rock. They put you in the heart of the Mission, one of the best eating and drinking hoods in San Francisco. I hear the tot bar at "Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem" is pretty awesome. Plus, there's usually snacks and booze, but it runs out pretty quick.

Hope you can make it,
Jason

Those of you who know me, understand my love for Ron Swanson. He understands that in bacon there is truth. And Nick Offerman, the actor who plays Ron Swanson seems to be just as awesome.
